GAI - Energia e ambiente
Environment

Currently, the company's energy and heating needs are entirely supplied by internal sources.

Gai is currently completely autonomous for the production of electricity.

The plant consists of:

  • A 2,350 kWp photovoltaic system with an annual production of over 2,500,000 kWh.
  • Three Viessmann generators with a global power of around 1,300 kW, an annual production of approximately 3,000,000 kWh of electricity and over 4,000,000 kWh of heat. The generators operate on natural gas and consume around 1,000,000 m3/year.
  • A 1,500 kW Piller Uninterruptible Power Supply that provides high quality electricity on a continuous basis (voltage of 400Volt +/- 5, frequency of 50 Hz, cos 0.997). This unit successfully controls all micro-interruptions thanks to a kinetic accumulation of 43 mega joules. The problem of pollution due to disposal is overcome as storage batteries are not used.
  • A Cummins emergency power system of 1,500 kW which activates in case of macro-interruptions.

Building the complete plant required an investment of around 10,000,000 euros with a return in about six years time. This plant has enabled to overcome all supply interruptions since it was inaugurated in 2015. From an environmental point of view, annual CO2 emissions are reduced saving about 1,800 tons/year, which corresponds to approximately 12,000,000 km travelled by a mediumsized vehicle (300 times around the earth).

To our knowledge, this is the most complete tri-generation plant existing in Italy.
